i'll always have this special feeling about "zakariyya".. it's my mother's town.. my grandparents told me so many stories about it..how it was,how they left and how they felt when they saw it from far away occupied and full of israeli settelments...i showed my grandfather the picture of the school .. he was so young in that picture in 1936..thanx you!

Assalamu Alaikum to All,
Unfortunatelly, This is the first time I log into this site, and I was impressed of all the messeges posted here about Zakariyya. I am proud of Zakariyya. Since I was very young, I used to visit my village almost weekly with my dad Haj Ribhi Shamroukh (RahmatuLLah 3aleih) when he was travelling from Al-Khalil to Palestine 1948 for trade purposes and we used to pass by the entrance of Zakariyya. Everytime, my dad used to drive us inside the village and talk about the houses, streets, trees, families, school where he got his primary education, mosque, the historical bridge of Zakariyya which was built by my grandfather Haj Abdelhafez Mahmoud Shamroukh, and many stories about the village and the famillies. Nowadays, I feel we have lost a history by not documenting every word he said. In 1948, Haj Ribhi Shamroukh was 12 years old and witnessed the tragidy of the occupation.
Currently, I live in Dearborn, Michigan (USA) and wish to communicate with all fellow residents of Zakariyya. Let's keep connected and anyone needs help, we should be there InshaAllah.
Sharif Shamroukh

I visited the Mosque today thinking of the village's former inhabitants. Just to update those interested, it is fenced off with a sign reading 'dangerous structure - entry forbidden'. Neglect has apparently rendered the building unsafe. So, I couldn't go in to see the conditions inside. I took a picture from a different angle, which I will try to send. The Mosque bears silent testament to the pain of the village's refugees, making its preservation all the more important.

Hi every one,
First of all, I؟m so thrilled to know about this site. Second, I will like to shake your hands and hug each and every one you. I would like to say it loud and clear to every one in this ugly world of ours that I'm a Palestinian and I؟m very proud of it. I'm sure that I have never met any one of you, but I have heard all of your family names through my parents. I wish that we can establish a private chat room in the Internet that allow us to chat and talk to each other

Respected sirs,
I was really impressed with your site and I appreciate all the efforts that you have put into it. My family is originally from Zakkaryia, and I was to pleased to learn so many things about my home village. The greatest surprise however was to read my fathers name among the students list of Haj Ribhi Shamroukh reminiscing about his school.
Keep up the good work!
