I was very young when we left Palestine "for a few weeks until things calm down" as my parents put it.I was told we had to leave because there was shortage of food, people were killing each other in the streets,and because there was no Government.....Of course we never returned to our home. later on, as I studied European History,I came to know that the root of the trouble as usual started from the Big Powers!!!!.Thanks for listening to me as a neutral reader from another point of view...I don't mean to hurt or insult anybody. I loved Jaffa and still do. It will always be my home town.

We met some soldiers from the Salvation army who told us that all the souks were closed and no need to go further. We returned and found to our surprise almost all our neighbors standing on their doors with their suicases in hand. There were two ships 'waiting' in the port, they said, and it is a matter of 15 days and we will be back. So, within minutes we made up our mind and left to the port. The boats you see in this picture are lifting Jaffa residents from the quay to the ships waiting some 600 meters far in the sea. You would not believe if I tell you that 24 hours ago, we have'nt got the slightest idea of leaving our country.
