During the period 1935 to 1937 latrines were installed in villages by the staff of the Department against the repayment of a nominal sum by the villagers. The total numbers so installed were as follows

(xxi) To exan1ine a11d report on medico-legal cases.
6,252 medico-legal cases were reported on in 1944 by medical officers of the Department. A considerable part of the time of these officers is occupied in preparing these reports and in giving evidence in the court cases which follow.
(xxii) To prescribe the conditions under which scheduled trades and industries may be licensed and conducted and to control them by inspection.
The Trades and Industries (Regulation) Ordinance, 1927,* is administered by the Department. 28,999 establishments were inspected and licensed in 1944. One medical officer in each large town is employed on this duty.
(xxiii) To provide for the laboratory diagnosis of disease and to investigate the epidemiological conditions existing with a view to developing measures of control.
The Department of Health provides complete facilities for the laboratory diagnosis of disease and for the investigation of epidemiological conditions. Its laboratory service also carries out the chemical analysis of foods, drugs and waters and undertakes chemico-legal and medico-legal examinations, agricultural analysis and the verification of weights and measures The central laboratories also prepare calf-lymph. antirabic vaccine and other prophylactic and curative vaccines, including anti-typhoid, anti-cholera and anti-plague; in addition it undertakes the histopathological examination of morbid material and all kinds of bio-chemical investigations. These laboratories, situated in Jerusalem, comprise bacteriological, chemical, entomological, agricultural, forensic and physical laboratories together with the central anti-rabies manufacturing institute and the calf-lymph establishment.
