CHAPTER XVI.

34. The Arab is very differently situated and, though his fatalistic attitude towards sickness is susceptible to change where facilities for medical treatment or advice are obtainable, there are very few villages in which private medical practitioners reside and only relatively few in which public clinics are held by Government or mission doctors at weekly or fortnightly intervals. In general the Arab villager has to proceed considerable distances on donkey or foot for any medical assistance. It is in the towns only that reasonably adequate facilities for medical attention are available and only in the principal towns that public hospitals maintained by religious or missionary bodies or by Government exist for the needs of the

Arab community. .
