(1) The War Needs Fund which in 1944 raised over £P.800,000 by voluntary contributions; gave £P.42,000 to the Va'ad Leumi for social welfare.
(2) The Jewish Federation of Labour (Histadruth) which has unemployment, old age and sick insurance schemes and a relief society (Mishan).
(3) The Hadassah Organization which, in addition to its medical work, contributes large sums for non-medical welfare; £P.130,000 per annum.
(4) The Women's International 7-ionist Organisation ( WTZO) and its Palestine branch which maintain baby homes, day nurseries, clubs, playgrounds, training farms for girls, hostels, etc; total expenditure for 1944 was £P.200,000.
{(5) The Orthodox Women’s Organization (6) The Working Women’s Organization } both of which
have similar activities to the WIZO and whose budgets for Hl4J were £P.100,000 each.
(7) The Jewish Agency which contributes £P.110,000 to the Jewish Soldiers' Welfare Committee and is in charge of "Immigrants Care" with a. budget varying according to the number of immigrants.
(8) The Youth Immigration Bureau (Youth Aliyah) which is at present caring for 7.000 children; current budget .£P.940,000
There is in addition a large number of voluntary societies, many of them concerned with child welfare , which raise funds locally and receive donations from abroad.
A certain amount of over-lapping is evident in the activities of some of the above organizations and is unavoidable so long as several women's organizations are divided on ideological grounds and not by spheres of work.
The provision earmarked for social welfare amongst the Jewish community as shown in the budgets of the various Jewish organizations is given in the following table. Funds coming from abroad are marked *. Funds raised locally are marked .
