It appears from table 11 that the saving of human life resulting from the progress in health conditions realised during 1926-1940 in Moslem Palestine has been considerable. The number of children surviving at age 15 is higher by 26 per cent. in 1938/40 than it was in 1926/27; the number of people reaching age 50 is higher by more than 35 per cent. In 1926-27 Moslem Palestine was at a level not much better than that of India, one of the countries where the waste of human life is greatest, and was in a condition similar to that of Egypt***. In 1938/40 Moslem Palestine is, from the point of view of mortality, on a much higher level than both of these countries and is very similar to an European country like Bulgaria and not far from Japan the most progressive Asiatic country in this respect.
