Table 16 reveals several interesting features :-
(a) The rural population all over Palestine has made very substantial progress in reducing infant mortality.
(b) The progress was, however, not evenly distributed. In 1925-30 the rate of mortality was rather uniform, the subdistrict being distributed as follows :-

In 1940-44 the sub-districts are much more differentiated, the rates ranging between 86 and 184. The rates are between 86 and 111 in three sub-districts of the coastal plain where Arab population is largely mixed with Jewish population viz :
Haifa, Jaffa and Ramleh. In the internal districts they are relatively uniform (between 119 and 149) and they are highest at the two extremities of Palestine, Gaza in the south and Safad in the north.
