There are now in Palestine 314 Government and over 400 non-Government schools. The Jewish schools are all in the latter category. In it are included also a number of schools conducted by missionary bodies of several denominations and nationalities, owing to whose efforts the percentage of children belonging to the Christian communities who attend schools is high compared with the percentage among the Moslems. There are twenty Arab voluntary schools, of which twelve have been established since 1920".
184. The general trends then observed bold good to the present day and, in particular, Arab wants are still unsatisfied for lack of funds. Much, however, has been done to provide facilities for education• and a considerable way towards meeting the basic Arab requirements has been covered. The approximate percentages of Arab children who receive education for some period or other is estimated as follows*:-

Almost 100 % of Christian children are believed to receive school education of some kind or other.
185. Provision for Arab higher education has been made at the Government Arab College (about 90 pupils) and the Rashidiya school, both in Jerusalem. At these institutions, pupils are enabled to take an examination of University Intermediate standard. Provision for commercial education is made at the Jaffa elementary secondary school for boys. Provision for technical education is made at the Government Trade School in Haifa. Law classes are administered by Government. The Kadoorie Agricultural School at Tulkarm provides for agricultural instruction.
186. Secondary education is provided in 17 (1945) Government schools (with 1211 pupils), two private schools and a number of schools maintained by foreign organizations and missionary bodies. Pupils at the secondary schools can enter for the Palestine or London matriculation examinations. 138 from Arabic speaking schools entered for the former in 1943.
187. The elementary system is based on the public (Government) schools, supplemented by Moslem private schools and the schools maintained by foreign organizations and missionary bodies. The growth of the public system is illustrated in the following table :
