CHAPTER XVII.

(viii) Right of Association (Agriculture) Convention 1921.

Government has never declared this Convention as applicable to Palestine. However, as there is no legislation in Palestine which discriminates against agricultural workers in the matter of rights of association, it could be said that agricultural workers enjoy such rights; in fact, most of the Jewish agricultural workers are organised within the General Federation of Jewish Labour.

(ix) Workmen' s Compensation (Agriculture) Convention 1921.

This Convention has not been applied in Palestine. At present' agricultural workers are not covered by the Workmen's Compensation Ordinance, 1927. However, the Workmen's Compensation Committee appointed by the High. Commissioner, under the. chairmanship of the Director of Labour, is considering the inclusion of agricultural workers thereunder.

(x) White Lead (Painting) Convention 1921.

Only Article 3, prohibiting employment of males under 18 and all females in any painting work of an industrial character involving the use of white lead or sulphate of lead or other products containing these pigments, is applied under the two employment Ordinances.

(xi) Weekly Rest (Industry) Convention 1921.

Except -

(a) for children, young persons and women, for whom a compulsory weekly day of rest is provided for under the two employment Ordinances; and

(b) where awards of Arbitration Boards set up under the Defence (Trade Disputes) Order, 1942, include the granting of a weekly day of rest among their terms,

the provisions of this Convention have not been applied by law in Palestine. However, a weekly day of rest is everywhere the rule.

(xii) Workmen's Compensation (Accidents) Convention 1945.

In Palestine, the right to compensation is restricted under the Workmen's Compensation Ordinance, 1927, to workmen engaged in thirteen specified industries and trades, while the requirements of the Convention apply to workmen, employees and apprentices employed at any enterprise, undertaking or establishment of whatever nature.
