(xix) Fee Charging Employment Agencies Convention 1933.
The position is the same as stated in paragraph (ii) above. (xx) Underground Work (Women) Convention 1935.
The requirements of the Convention, prohibiting the employment of a female (whatever her age is) on underground work in any mine but exempting there from certain categories or females, are applied in Palestine to the following extent :
(a) The Employment of Children and Young Persons Ordinance, 1945, prohibits such employment of any female under the age of 18 years :
(b) The Employment of Women Ordinance, 1945, makes the underground employment of a woman in any mine subject to such conditions as may be prescribed by the Director of Labour by notice published in the Gazette.
There are no mines in Palestine as yet.
(xxi) Holidays with Pay Convention 1936.
This Convention has not been applied in Palestine; however, it is almost a general practice in industrial and non-industrial undertakings, and in certain respects the practice is ahead of the Convention. Furthermore, many awards that have been formulated under the Defence (Trade Disputes) Order, 1942, included, among their terms, provisions as regards holidays with pay.
(xxii) Safety Provisions (Building) Convention 1937.
A small part of this Convention, namely Article 15(1) concerning the provision of efficient safeguards to motors, gearing, transmission machinery and electric wiring, is applied in Palestine under the Machinery (Fencing) Ordinance, 1928. However, the general principles of the Convention regarding safety at work, including adequate provisions for first aid, are embodied in the Factories Ordinance which will come into effect in 194 7.
(xxiii) Convention Concerning Statistics of Wages and Hours of Work 1938.
The general principles of this Convention are applied in Palestine in regard to compiling statistics, publishing the data and communicating the data compiled to the International Labour Office. The work is being done by the Department of Statistics, partly in collaboration with the Department of Labour.
(xxiv) White Phosplunus Convention 1906.
Palestine has adhered to this Convention. The manufacture of matches in which white phosphorus is used, and the importation of matches made with white phosphorus, are prohibited by law.
