(iii) 50% of families, consisting of two persons only, require one room unit;
(iv) Single persons require 1/2 room unit each.
21. On the above basis 67 ,000 room units are required for the accommodation of Jewish immigrants.
It must be noted that the immigration statistics used in the above calculations are in respect of authorised immigrants and do not take into account persons who have entered Palestine illegally or who, having been admitted as travellers, have remained illegally in this country.
(3). Building construction 1936-1945 (Jewish).
22. Neglecting for the moment such minor factors as the influx of temporary refugees and the diversion of residential buildings to purposes other than the accommodation of the local population, we may now turn to the amount of housing accommodation which has been provided during the period under consideration viz. 1936-1945. Table 3 has been prepared on the basis of certain assumptions, to which further reference will be made hereafter, to show the residential buildings which have been constructed in the urban areas of Palestine during this period. The figures include buildings constructed by Arabs as well as Jews and in mixed urban areas it has been assumed that the amounts of Jewish and Arab construction are in proportions shown in the following table 2:

23. For the years 1936-1945 the data relating to buildings from which table 3 has been prepared were taken from the Statistical Abstracts of Palestine. The number of residential room units constructed yearly was obtained by dividing the total built-up area, given in square metres in the Statistical Abstracts, in respect of the four main towns by 30 in order to reduce square metres to
