CHAPTER XIX.

During 1945, the M.E.S.C. made an allocation of 1200 tons of hides to be imported, but the supply position in the loading areas resulted in only 75% of the quantity to be made available. Thus there exists, at the present moment, a leather shortage in Palestine.

Prospects for 1946 are obscure. The allocation made was 1400 tons of hides, but the supply position is still uncertain and action is in progress to obtain real data and apply steps to •rectify the position.
