of whom used to belong to the professional classes in their country of origin; these settlements are based on individual property and complete cooperation in marketing, supply and communal affairs. The party polled 21,383 votes (10.7%) at the last elections to the Elected Assembly and thereby secured second place. It has a labour group which is affiliated to the General Federation of Labour. Leading figures are Dr. F. Rosenblueth and Dr. G. Landauer. Its party organs are Mitteilungsblatt (in German) and Amudim (in Hebrew), both weeklies.
THE MIZRAHI (World Organization).
40. In common with the Poe! Mizrahi described in paragraph 36 above, this party aims at instilling a Jewish religious and traditionalist spirit into all Jewish activities in accordance with the Torah. Its slogan is "the People of Israel, in the Land of Israel, according to the Religion of Israel". While maintaining its independence as an organization, it forms part of the world Zionist movement and of the Zionist Congress. Its world centre is in Jerusalem and is elected at biennial conferences attended by delegates from branches abroad. The Mizrahi has representatives on the Executive both of the Jewish Agency and of the General Council of the Jewish community in Palestine. Rabbi Y. L. Fishman represents the Mizrahi on the Executive of the Jewish Agency. It maintains a separate system of religious education under the aegis of the General Council of the Jewish Community (Va'ad Leumi). The party has adopted the Biltmore Programme. At the last elections to the Elected Assembly the party polled 7 ,772 votes i.e. 4%. Its party organ is Hazojeh, a daily.
C. Right Wing parties.
41. BRIT ZIONlM KLALllM (Union of General Zionists), also known as General Zionists B, advocate; private enterprise, in the upbuilding of the national home. It is numerically weak (at the recent abortive elections to the Jerusalem Jewish Community the number of votes polled would have failed to secure it one seat), and has its main following in the well-to-do middle classes; it is closely associated with influential bodies such as the Farmers' Federation (citrus grove owners), the Manufacturers' Association, the Union of Landlords' Associations, etc. It is represented on the Executive of the Jewish Agency by Dr. E. Schmorak. Other members of this party are Mr. Israel Rokach, C.B.E., Mayor of Tel-Aviv, and Mr. Daniel Auster, O.B.E., who formerly acted as Mayor of Jerusalem. The party has adopted the Biltmore Programme. Its party organ is Haboker , a daily.
