ed in the case of persons other than licensed dealers, and dealing in quinine and antimalarial preparations and in "sulpha" drugs was brought under special restrictions.

148. An Order* was published in August, 1942 which imposed special restrictions on the use of quinine and other anti-malarial preparations, limiting the sale of such drugs to persons requiring malaria treatment who presented doctors' prescriptions. This measure was taken, on instructions from the Secretary of State, in order to conserve the diminished stocks of quinine and to ensure its proper use. This Order was revoked on 18th October, 1945.

149. An Order ** was published in April, 1943 imposing special restrictions on the use of the "sulpha" drugs (dageuan, sulphathiazole and sulphaguanidine). The object of this Order was to reduce the consumption of these drugs, which were then in short supply, and to reserve their use for patients for whom treatment with these drugs was essential. The Order was revoked on 20th September, 1945.

150. An Order" ** was published in August, 1943 restricting possession of medical supplies to licensed dealers and imposing penalties on unlicensed persons in possession of medical supplies in excess of their actual personal requirements. The object of the order was to permit of the confiscation of supplies held by unlicensed persons, usually with the purpose of unlawful export, and to enable effective action to be taken against such persons.

151. As from 16th July, 1945 steps have been taken towards the relaxation of control, commencing with decontrol over the purchase and sale of medical supplies in Palestine. Except in so far as effected by the controls over imports, exports, prices and labelling which remain in force, trade in medical• supplies is now being conducted on normal and almost pre-war conditions in regard to sale, purchase, manufacture and release of imported goods.

(I) Control of Fuel Oil.

152. Benzine was brought under control in June, 1941, by the enactment of the Retail Dealing in Benzine (Limitation) Order, 1941 t, which required all persons dealing in benzine to be in possession of a valid licence issued by the officer controlling fuel oil supplies. The Benzine Rationing Rules, 1942tt forbade the
