The Council has the following powers and duties:-

(a) The control and supervision of the Jerusalem Law Classes.

(b) The grant of certificates to persons who have completed their course of studies at the Jerusalem Law Classes.

(c) The control and supervision of the Palestine Law Examination. (d) The control and supervision of persons undergoing a period of service qualifying for inscription on the roll of advocates.

(e) The grant of Inscription Certificates to persons who have qualified for inscription on the roll of advocates.

(f) The grant of Certificates of Completion and certificates of good character to persons who have completed their course of study in Moslem Religious Law at the Jerusalem Law Classes, and have satisfied the Council that they are of good character.

(g) The grant of certificates of good character to persons who have been certified by the Supreme Moslem Council to be qualified to practise before the Moslem Religious Courts, and have satisfied the Council that they are of good character.

(h)Such powers and such duties as are conferred or imposed upon the Council by sub-section (l) of section 20 of the Advocates Ordinance, 1938*.

(i) Such other powers and other duties as are from time to time conferred or imposed upon the Council by law.

The Council was established in November, 1938 under section 3 of the Law Council Ordinance, 1938**.

27. The Committee for Licensing Public Auditors.

The Committee was appointed in April, 1935, by the High Commissioner under section 105(4) of the Companies Ordinance*** for the examination of applications for and the issue of certificates to practise the profession of auditor in Palestine.
