Sanduq (Ar.)
- "Box".
Sanduq el Umma.
(Ar.) - "Coffer of the Nation". Fund collected by Arabs to purchase land and so prevent its purchase by J cws.
Sanjaq (Turkish) - Mutesarrifiya or Liwa (Ar.). Sub-division of
Turkish province (vilayet). A District under the British administration. Further subdivided into Kadas, Qadas, or Cazas (Ar.).
Sephardi (pl. Sephardim) (H.) -- A Jew from Southern Europe or Turkey whose language was originally Spanish or Portuguese. Now enlarged to include Oriental Jews speaking Arabic or other Asiatic languages.
