As a result of the constitution of Trans-Jordan as an independent kingdom the High Commissioner for Palestine has ceased to be also High Commissioner for Trans-Jordan.

The post of Economic Adviser lapsed on the death (in the King David Hotel outrage) of the then bolder. Some of the duties of that post in relation to trade and industry are now undertaken by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry. The function of principal adviser to Government on economic matters has devolved upon the Financial Secretary.

As from the 1st April, 1947, the constitution of the Department. of Agriculture -vas altered to allow for the creation of a separate Department of Veterinary Services. 'The new department is responsible for :-
(a) Prevention of the introduction into Palestine of epizootic and other diseases of animals and poultry.
(b) Investigation and control of diseases of animals and poultry J including those transmissible to man.
(c) Laboratory investigations of diseases of animals and poultry, diagnostic examinations and the production of vaccines and sera.
(d) Examination of livestock in animal markets and in villages; supervision of slaughter-houses and meat inspection i compilation of data connected with the trade in hides and skins and other by-products of slaughter-houses.
(e) Improvement of construction and hygiene of animal habitations.
(f) Professional attendance to police and other Government owned animals.
(g) Prevention of cruelty to animals.
(h) Breeding, nutrition and management of Government stock; distribution of selected stock to farmers and their supervision,
