(i) Investigations, by field surveys in settlements and villages, of breeds and crosses, and of the methods of nutrition best suited to the widely varying conditions obtaining in Palestine.
(i) Extension work among stock-owners on selective breeding combined with culling and castration of scrub stock, and, among Arab stock-owners, special education and demonstration necessitated by heavy losses through faulty management.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries continues to be responsible for certain aspects of animal husbandry, namely :-
(a) Breeding, nutrition and management of poultry on Government stations and all extension work in the field.
(b) Extension work on dairying methods; investigation of the economics of the dairying industry and of marketing of milk products.
(c) Investigation and extension work connected with the fattening of slaughter cattle by stall and pasture feeding and the economics thereof.
(d) The introduction, production and management of all crops, which can be grown locally for animal feeding.

With effect from the 15th April, 1947, the Civil Service Commission was set up to take over the work formerly carried out by the Personnel Section of the Secretariat. The Commission is administered by the Civil Service Commissioner who is charged with all aspects of staff administration including general policy regarding conditions of recruitment and terms of service, and the detailed day-to-day regulation of staff and personnel matters.
