(p. 434) (§ 24)
The total area of sand dunes in Palestine is over 350,000 dunums. A scheme for the fixation of 100 ,000 dunums of these dunes within the next 10 years has been commenced. In the past few years the Department of Forests has laid down 12,000 dunums of wattles (acacia cyanophylla plantations) designed to fix loose sand and to provide a crop of firewood. During the war several thousand tons of firewood were supplied to the Forces from this source. Two new Forest Nurseries were started in 1946 with a capacity of over one million plants which are to be used for free distribution and for departmental plantations.
