SEIZURES OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION FROM ARABS.

Seizures from Arabs have consisted mainly of small hauls or individual captures. Among the largest were in rifles, 2 pistols and 568 cartridges from a gang in 1939, 19 rifles and nearly 2,000 rounds of ammunition from a Hebron village in 1945 and 12,350 rounds of rifle ammunition from certain Beduin in the Gaza District in December, 1946.

Notable seizures from Jews included.

(i) In January, 1943, a joint police and military patrol stopped a Jewish supernumerary police pick-up being driven in the direction of Dafne settlement (Galilee District) and discovered 9 ,879 rounds of .303 ammunition for which the three occupants could not account. The three men were later sentenced by military court to long terms of imprisonment. It is noteworthy that in September, 1942, a small police party checking crop estimates in
