In November, 1945, shortly after the Stern Group and N.M.O. began cooperating with the Hagana , a series of broadcasts by the Group took place as the "Voice of the Jewish Underground". These transmissions continued until the 18th February, 1946, when the transmitter and some arms were seized by the Police in Tel Aviv during a broadcast. Several arrests were made and a woman announcer was subsequently sentenced by military court to seven years imprisonment. In June, 1946, pamphlets appeared announcing the resumption of broadcasts from this station but only four were reported, the last being recorded on the 4th August, 1946.
Recent information indicates that the Group numbers about 1,000, having been reinforced by new immigrants and by dissentients from the other associations.
(p. 606) (§ 57)
No assessment of the quantity of arms held by the Group can be given but it is thought that it is large enough to be a real danger to security.
The following table shows the number of persons killed, wounded and subjected to physical violence by Jewish terrorists in the period 1st August, 1945 to 31st March, 1947.
