The housing of ex-service men and women has presented serious difficulties in view of the great shortage of housing accommodation and the congestion in the main towns. Over £P.1,000,000 were granted as loans to municipal corporations and local councils, for the purpose of building houses and flats for ex-servicemen on a "hire-purchase" plan.

A not inconsiderable number of flats and rooms was requisitioned or used for the billeting of ex-servicemen. It is proposed to discontinue such requisitions and billeting as from 30th June, 1947.
