principal aims are : the establishment of a bi-national democratic state in Palestine and the evacuation of British troops; opposition to partition: a solution of the Palestine problem through the United Nations Organisation with the cooperation of the "progressive forces of the world"; opposition to Zionist immigration and encouragement for the rehabilitation of Jewish displaced persons in their native countries. Members of the party have been admitted to the General Federation of Jewish Labour. The party has an active youth organisation. Its organ is the daily "Kol Haam".

PALESTINE COMMUNIST UNION.

This is a small communist group whose members and sympathisers number approximately 700. Although outside the World Zionist Organisation it associates itself with most aspects of Zionist policy and calls for unrestricted Jewish immigration and the ultimate establishment of a Jewish National Home in Palestine under the protection of Soviet Russia and with the approval of the United Nations Organisation. Members of this group are accepted in the General Federation of Jewish Labour. Its organ is the weekly "Achdut".

DEMOCRATIC CLUB.

This is a small anti-Zionist group of Trotskyist intellectuals whose activity is confined to the dissemination of propaganda.

(p. 961)

(§ 45)

The two organisations are not political parties in the accepted sense and take no part in elections. They are rather in the nature of political clubs. Thud is opposed to a maximalist Zionist policy and aims at the inclusion of a bi-national Palestinian entity in the framework of a Middle Eastern Federation. The membership of the group is small but it includes personalities of standing such as Dr. J. L. Magnes, President of the Hebrew Uiniversity. The League for Jewish Arab Rapprochement includes Thud and a number of members of all parties, predominantly Hashomer Hatzair, Achdut Avoda-Poalei Zion and Aliya Hadasha. The League has little influence among the general public.
