A Must Watch Interview:Mike Wallace Interviews Erich Fromm ... more in the first comment
The interview may get you out of your comfort zone, especially at the end when he speaks about socialism. Never mind it, he came too strong for today's audience and I fully understand where he is coming from.
He wrote a book called: Escape from Freedom, it is all about Psycho Analysis but from the political side; it attempts to explain the fear people get when they receive a new burst of social and political freedoms, especially when the old order collapsed or collapsing. He Explains why many becomes scared of it and look for a "new order". Ironically he links it all to parenting!!! A link about the book provided in the 2nd comment. A link to a relevant podcast is provided in the 3rd comment.
I know you will say the liberal left, but trust me we are paying incredible price for the collapse of the progressive left, which is a worldwide phenomenon. That intellectual vacuum has opened the door wide open for the fascist right; which explains why fascist-authoritarian right is on the rise world wide, not only here in America, but in Europe, the middle east, Russia and of course China.
