Dimra - دمره: Dimra memories

As a member of the British Forces I was stationed North of Gaza and the local village was indeed Dimra. I was there over twelve months until the British mandate ceased. My batman was himself a resident of Dimra and his father was the Muktah 9an Hadj)and I spent many happy hours as a guest of these lovely people. My batman's name was Jadallah Mohamet Jadallah (Lofty)and I recall his sister was named Mirium (salt). I was present when British forces shot and killed an Arab who was stealing a typewriter and Jadallah informed me that it he was a cousin. Somewhere among my effects I am sure I have some photographs of the time.Maybe I can upload these sometime.
The well that was mentioned as still remaining though derelict was on the Muktah's property and I well remember it's chuff chuff chuff.
It is sad, really sad.
