The Israeli unit 101, established in August 1953 and dismantled in January 1954, is responsible for the termination of the Bedouin life here. This unit perpetrated many war crimes, including the notorious Qibya massacre in October 1953. They also expelled Bedouins in other places in the Negev, killed refugees in El Bureij refugee camp, harassed traffic. Their commander was Major Ariel Sharon.
