The other day while I was going through some family documents looking for a copy of the family booklet for a reason completely irrelevant to this post I stumbled upon a hidden treasure, at least for me. It was the marriage contract of my late grandparents, and it dated back to January 1943, and the marriage took place in Silwan, Palestine.
The most interesting part about it is perhaps the marriage stipulation. My grandmother stipulated that if her husband-to-be left Palestine for a year or more she would be free to divorce herself from him. Little did she know that in a few years her husband would die, and a few years down the road she would be forced to leave Palestine with her 4 children, and she would never come back.
Perhaps what I found most moving about this is how the contracts states that the marriage took place in Silwan and it mentions Palestine so loud and clear, as a matter-of-fact. Now after almost 70 years I read that as: Palestine was there, it has always been there. As opposed to the Zionist claim that Palestine as a country never existed and that they were just some primitive clans living on a land that they didn?t deserve. From which comes the infamous slogan ?A land with no people for a people with no land?.
This is not just a marriage contract, it?s a historic proof to the existence of Palestine long before the so-called Zionist state of Israel came into existence.
Don?t you love it when you can actually touch history?
