When the Caliph Omar entered Jerusalem in the year 15 A.H. (637 A.D.) He wanted to pray, so the people asked him to pray at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, but the Caliph refused to do so, and moved to an empty spot south of the church. Later the moslems built a mosque on that spot that carried his name. Please distinguish between this mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Some westerners call the Dome of the Rock as the Mosque of Omar.
