The area of the site is quite big - about 250 dunums.
There are many caves all of similar structure: sloping ground, antrance - fortified with stones, and the cave, sometimes separated to several rooms. The roof is marked by a low lying fence.
I found one cistern [bir / harabeh].
According to wikipedia - the area was excavated in 1991-1992 and a Byzantine church was excavated. It is thought that Judas Iscariotes - the person who surrendered Christ - came from this place.
During the hike I met shepherds of the Khmashe family and their camels. They said that their ancestors used to live in the caves.
It is possible that the village was attacked during the Samua' raid prior to the 1967 war. If it is so it amounts to an expulsion from Israel (within the 1967 borders) and very late for such things to occur.
