How old is this tree; does anyone know? Also, is it the same one we used to take the groom to, east if he lived in the western part of town? How he rode so majestically atop a beautifully saddled horse and had tens of women and the adorable young girls, his relations festively dance all around him celebrating his wedding day, the day of his initiation into adult responsibilities. Those were the good old days!!! Our village weddings were truly the best. As a little girl, I asked my mom to bring me some of that delicious rice they had at the wedding. She cooked me some but I refused to eat it because I wanted the one that was wrapped in the see-through little red scarf. Turmosayya was filled with magic and wonder then and people were very friendly, so much nicer than today. Now they act as if money is everything and if anyone made it in America which they all did, they were above the rest of humanity. I love the old Turmosayyans better because they made us all feel that we belonged. Every male relative was an uncle or cousin and I loved all my uncles, the source of love, family and affection. The best of them was Ammo El-Nuri whomm I preferred in his "dimaya" "hattah" and "iggal" instead of his expensive Italian-made white suits.
Most definitely, we knew then who we were and what "Hamoolah" we belonged to. The changes of the modern and Americanized world brought us so much loss of the good old true values.
