'Ateer/Umm al-Heeran - : Umm ElHiran: Population transfer with legal blessing |
Uri Z. The Bedouins of Umm ElHiran lived in Wadi Zubala near Shoval prior to the 1948 war. After the occupation, they were deported here under the orders of the military governer of the south. They told them they can use 7000 dunums (dunum=1000 m^2) for living. But this area is much more dry than the north west of the Negev where they used to live. Now the government wants to expell them in order to build an exclusively Jewish locality: Hiran. This settlement initiative originated from West Bank settlers. Jewish and democratic state: Democratic for the Jews, Jewish for the Arabs Hebrew with English subtitles. |
