Bayt Dajan - بيت دجن: The Golden Spindle

Posted by Uri Zackhem on December 8, 2013
Lubna Salame & the Nazareth Orchestra, Uri Z.
The Golden Spindle was a weaving factory of the Jaffa resident Ahmad Abu Laban, until 1948. After the fall of Palestine the place was used as an IDF base (Masha 7100) and then deserted in the early 2000s.
This is a visit to what remained.
The factory is in Beit Dajan, opposite the police fort.

I am interested to see this as my Father, John Gillett, a Lancashire textile engineer, oversaw the building and installation of machinery in this mill in 1946-1947. My Mother, sister and I lived nearby. I have photos and information. Sad to see it in ruins.
