This building was the property of Dawood Zarifeh & Sons, Orange groves owners and exporters to the UK. It was bankrupted in the Great Depression of 1929 when the British importers could not pay them their bills and in turn to pay the Jaffa Banks. It included on the ground floor the General Post Office and the Anglo-Palestine Bank. The first floor was the main office of the Socony Vaacum Company, as well as various company offices. On the upper floor was the Zarifeh office and the tailoring unit of the famous tailor Litvinsky , where the notorious tailor Hafez Kayyali trained. That was before the split of the Jaffa Municipality into a Jaffa Municipality and a Tel-Aviv Municipality. The street to the left is Zarifeh Street which leads to Iskandar Awad St. and ending at the Qahwat Gedeon and barber H. Abu Rialeh where I had my haircuts.
In 1948, Jamil Hanna was the chief of staff and Atef Salim El
Far one of the senior employees.
