Hi folks,

I'm making my sixth trip to the West Bank later this month, and my plan is to also spend some time in Lifta photographing and surveying the village in an effort to visually recreate it online. If anyone reading this has pictures they'd like to share (buildings, keys, deeds, family members, or whatever), or can describe the location of their home in Lifta, or would like to contribute a brief blurb about their memories of Lifta, please contact me at [email protected]. It may take me a while, but I'll try to link each of these materials to the home of the person/family in question, so visitors to the website can get some feeling of what was lost when the people of Lifta were driven into exile.

Regards,
Aaron

My name is Hanaa Jaber and both of my parents (Ali & Naheel Jaber) are from Lifta. I actually found this site when I was planning on visiting Palestine and I was wondering if anyone really knew or had heard of Lifta. I was in complete shock when I found this site. I was so happy to know that Lifta is still not gone and that Lifta's memory still lives on. And I love that this book gets to connect all of us from all around the world. I hope to hear from everyone and I will definitely be back to this site. I hope everyone receives this message in great health. take care.
Salam.

Thanks for a great website. My father's family was forced out of Lifta in 1948. As Palestinians, it is important that we continue to share our stories with the world. I've recently made a documentary film about my family's experience: www.belongingthefilm.com Keep sharing the memories.

Am from a small village called Lifta, located beside Jerusalim.

Thank you and good luck, and I would be more than happy to conribute in this honorable activity.

I do want to post an appeal for all of you who are from Lifta and any other palestinian village or town to go to Wikipedia.org and start setting up such details over there and I would appreciate if PalestineRemembered helped us by sharing the details posted on their web site.

On Friday, 12 February 2005, at 11:00 a.m. we will hold a ceremony to commemorate the Nakba in Lifta, together with refugees from the village. We will post signs at village landmarks and distribute special brochures produced for the occasion. This event will also be an opportunity to express solidarity with refugees of the village; a current building plan threatens to destroy the remains of the village to make way for Jewish settlement.

Transportation will leave from the Tel Aviv central train station (Arlozorov) by the El Al terminal at 9:45. We'll meet at the entrance to Lifta, MEI NAFTOAH street at 11:00 a.m.

While born in the United States, I visited Lifta on more than one occasion (once in the 1985 and most recently in 1998). My family's home still stands. While my family still holds on to the memories and the skeleton key that once opened the doors to their home, the possibility of reclaiming what was once theirs is remote. I can only hope and pray that the people that once flourished in this beautiful village and others like it are safe and at peace.

Hi

I visited what has remained of Lifta during my last trip to Israel. I wanted to get to know the people who inhabited it and what happened to them, so I came to this website. This site does not say it, but Lifta now is inhabited by hippies (or such) from all over the world. They shared their food with me, in one of the homes, and the water from the well.

The view from there is breathtaking. It leaves a really sad impression. I am a Zionist, meaning that I am for self-determination of my Jewish people, as well as for all peoples, but I never wanted any of this. We did not have to harm each other like that. I don't know how we ever get out of this mess.

Please remove "nospam-please" from my email when replying.
