The idea that Jews are indigenous to Palestine is questionable, especially considering the high prevalence of olive pollen allergies among the Jews. This could be a reason for the historical observation that Jews planted very few olive trees. In fact, after the 1948 Nakba, there was a concerted effort to destroy Palestinian olive groves, as noted by Meron Benvenisti in Sacred Landscape, p. 165, suggesting they were not valued. The allergy to olive trees may offer an explanation for this destruction. Furthermore, this logic could also be applied to the high rate of skin cancer observed in Jewish populations:
