The cornerstone of the museum was laid on June 19, 1930, construction was delayed due to the discovery of tombs dating to the fifth century B.C. at the building site. The museum was opened on Jan 13, 1938.
An old photo indeed. Bab Al-Sahira Cemetery is on the left top side before Salaheddin Street buildings were built. Al-Rashidiyyah School appears behind the Palestine Museum on the left. The tower on the right is the St. George's Cathedral Tower and to the left of the tower is the St. George's School (Al-Mutran) with the two floors and the balcony in the middle. To the right of photo is Wadi El-Joz neighborhood with Dar Abbdo with the two stories at the edge of the photo. Al-Musrarah neighborhood appears in the horizon behind the museum
